Professional Coaching for Women in Finance

If you’re a woman working within accounting and finance who’s feeling stuck, or you’d like to talk to another woman who ‘gets it’ because she’s been there — and who is also a professionally qualified coach — you’re in the right place.

Coaching has been an important part of my journey over the past 10-15 years as a finance professional and executive leader. It has helped me to navigate forks in the road, to see things from a different perspective, to think differently and to challenge myself.

Without the support of coaches and mentors, I don’t think I would have had the resilience to navigate some of the challenges of an executive career, or the courage to make some of the decisions that I have made.

And that is what brought me to gain my Associate Certified Coach credentials. I want to be able to share my gift with others, in the same way that my coaches have done, and continue to do, for me.

Navigating a Career in Accounting and Finance

From my experience there are four major transitions when navigating a career in accounting and finance:

1. Do you stay or do you go?

The decision to move from a professional services firm into commerce is a huge move and can be a real dilemma.  Do you aspire to be a Partner?

2. What are you staying for?

Is it worth staying within the firm once you get qualified? Will the experience you get as a manager ultimately help you to secure a better role in commerce?

3. Stepping into the top job

For emerging and new CFOs transitioning to become the leader of the finance function, it’s important to understand what you need to do differently to excel in the role. What does the CEO and/or Board expect of you? How do you shift from being a spreadsheet jockey to navigating strategic financial decisions?

4. Taking the first Non-Executive Director role.

What’s different from performing as an executive to a non-executive?

If your’re asking yourself any of these questions or contemplating any of these transitions, I can help you navigate the next step.

Coaching is a valuable process to undertake if

You’re in mid-career and asking yourself “Is this it?”
You want something else but you get caught up by what you and others think you ‘should’ be doing.
You’re experiencing internal conflict or not feeling content or fulfilled.
You’ve lost your passion and energy for what you used to do.
You’re juggling the demands of a new role and feel unsupported.
Work-life balance continues to elude you.
You’re having trouble seeing the wood for the trees.
You keep churning over the same thoughts — you don’t know where to start.

If you need a listening ear from a fellow professional woman who understands your situation, who will challenge your thinking, help you see things a little differently and give you clarity to move forwards, then I can help.

After working with me, you will:

Have more clarity about where you’re going.
Know what you need to do to get there.
Have the confidence to back yourself.
Feel more at ease and in control of your role

Why is Debbie best suited
to be your coach?

I’ve walked in your shoes. I get it.

I’ve worked my way through promotions to senior manager in professional service firms for 10 years.
I asked myself — am I prepared to do what it takes to get to partnership?
I tried a 2nd tier firm.
I took the plunge to take on a commercial role and then asked myself “What on earth am I supposed to do? Why is my boss not telling me what to do all the time?
It took some time and significant challenges to build up my credibility and relationships within the organisation.
I’ve been where you might be now — you might be thinking “I’m happy but, I’ve beenhere 5/10/15 years,is it time to evaluate my options?”
I know what sort of questions you should be asking in your first non-executive director role.
An International Coach Federation Associate Certified Coach, I know how to coach and I am fully qualified to be your mentor.

Debbie is a truly caring coach who through her questioning has enabled me to identify behavioural patterns and how they impact both my work and personal life.

Through supportive coaching sessions, these patterns have now been broken. Debbie’s professional experience brought another layer of insight to her coaching sessions. I would highly recommend this process to anyone who wants a balanced, informed and insightful perspective to reach their full potential

Debbie’s curiosity and patience really helped in showing me some clarity during a stressful and indecisive time in my career.

Her warmth and understanding led to our conversations being very open and allowing me to be safe in my vulnerability.
