Embracing Authenticity: Being Valued for Who We Are, Not What We Were

It can be a challenge to be accepted for who we are and not what we were.

The podcast “On Purpose with Jay Shetty” interviewing Lala Anthony: “On how to get in touch with yourself, disconnect and gain clarity“, provided me with some more perspective on this.

People love to put us in “Boxes” and keep us inside that “Box”. And sometimes we ourselves are afraid to jump out of the Box that we know so well.

The challenge for those keen to apply themselves to something new and different is to be seen and recognised for who they really are. For their transferable skills, strength of character, personal attributes, life experiences, their attitude – all of which can be applied to lots of different roles, organisations and situations in life.

Quoting Lala Anthony “Don’t buy into the Box theory”. Don’t allow yourself to be pigeon holed.

The biggest risk to getting out of your Box is – giving up; stopping too early. Not being persistent enough to push through barriers. It takes resilience. It takes courage, confidence and self- belief. It takes strength, tenacity and a bit of strategizing to find your way out of that Box. And it can take time.

So why would you bother?

Because the current Box is a bit stale.

You know it exactly what it looks and feels like.

It’s not stimulating, energising or fun anymore, or

there’s not much more to learn about that Box.

In fact, it could feel a bit suffocating.

Breaking out of your Box, you will find fresh air, may satisfy your thirst for life-long learning, meet some new people, make some new friends, be inspired by them and simply be energised by the change of scenery, and find your joy in life again.

If this article resonates with you you may find a couple of coaching sessions could help you find the courage you need to make the change you are looking for, and explore your options as to how you might do that.
